iPhone 5 Hands On.

The iPhone 5 handset has been officially unveiled by Apple at the Yerba Buena Center for the Arts for San Francisco. Senior Vice President of Apple's Worldwide marketing Phil Schiller said the new iPhone 5 will be the thinnest and lightest iteration of the device so far - it will be 7.6mm thin and weigh just 112g, making it 18% lighter than the iPhone 4S.

The new iPhone 5 is Apple's slimmest smartphone yet and also packs 4G LTE connectivity, a 4-inch cinematic screen and a new iSight camera
The iPhone 5 will be released on the 21st of September 2012.

What is 4G LTE?
LTE, which stands for Long Term Evolution, is the name for a technology standard used for 4G wireless networks. On average, 4G wireless is supposed to be anywhere from four to ten times faster than 3G networks. (Hope you get the gist on that...)

Features of the iPhone 5:

The new iPhone 5 has come with some added features. For folks who have docks for the port on the older iPhone, should be prepared to get adapters that will accommodate the new change in the iPhone 5. The new iPhone 5 is indeed the next generation of iPhone.

iPhone 5 Build:
In the hand, the 112g iPhone 5 unquestionably feels lighter and thinner. The 7.6mm depth is impressive, considering that this smartphone is much more powerful than the iPhone 4S.
However, while the aluminium/glass construction is gorgeous to look at, the reduction in weight also makes it feel less industrial and less sturdy.

A nano-SIM on the side replaces the old-style mini-SIM, which forms part of the reduction in size, while the new Lightening connector replaces the 30-pin model, again, helping to shave off precious millimetres. A final note on size - it's 9mm taller than the iPhone 4S but the same width.
The headphone socket is now on the bottom.

iPhone 5 Screen:

The most significant hardware change is the screen. The Retina display is now upped to four inches and brags a 1136x640-pixel resolution at 326 ppi.

An extra line of apps has been added to each screen. iPhone 5 features a 4-inch display at 326 pixels per inch, it has a pixel density so high your eye can’t distinguish individual pixels; which means that there's simply more to look at when browsing websites, playing games and using apps.

Apple says apps built for the old screen will work just fine but it will allow developers to create new apps specifically for this screen.

iPhone 5 Performance:

The new A6 chip has affected how fast the iPhone 5 operates. The iPhone 4S is equipped with the A5 chip.

Faster CPU performance:
With the new A6 chip, just about everything you do on iPhone 5 is noticeably faster than on the iPhone 4S. So apps launch, web pages load, and email attachments appear almost instantly.

Faster graphics:
The A6 chip also offers graphics performance that’s up to twice as fast as the A5. So you can power through graphics-intensive apps and games. And enjoy higher frame rates for smoother, more realistic gameplay.

Even better battery life:
Not only is the A6 chip custom designed to be fast, it’s custom designed to work with iOS 6 to be extremely power efficient. So even at its accelerated speed, iPhone 5 has more than enough battery power to last throughout the day — up to 8 hours of browsing on a cellular connection, up to 8 hours of talk time, and up to 10 hours of video playback time.

iPhone 5 Battery:

Apple has quoted 8 hours 3G browsing time, 8 hours talk time, 10 hours video playback, which all sounds pretty reasonable. When you get your own copy of the new iPhone 5; then you can be the judge.

The iPhone 5 comes with a raft of cool new features (mostly via iOS6), but fans of Samsung and HTC smartphones will cry that many of the features are already available on their devices. Regardless, it's a significant update for an already super smartphone.
